Our activated charcoal is a high-performance, eco-friendly adsorbent material designed for general filtration and odor control. It's made from high-quality biochar produced using advanced gasification systems, from sustainably sourced waste walnut shell biomass.
It starts as carefully selected walnut shells. This biomass is processed in advanced gasification systems which use a unique, high-temperature (over 800°C) process with an advanced 'Swirl Hearth' reactor design. This doesn't just char the biomass; it creates a highly porous, carbon-rich material with an exceptionally low level of impurities like PAHs (Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons). This high-quality biochar is then further processed or 'activated' to enhance its surface area and pore structure, making it highly effective for adsorption.
Our activated charcoal works through a process called adsorption. Each particle has millions of microscopic pores, creating a vast internal surface area. Odor molecules, VOCs, and other impurities in the air or water get trapped within these pores, helping to remove them from the surrounding environment.

When used properly, activated charcoal is safe for your home and family. The gasification process we use is designed to produce an exceptionally clean product with very low levels of PAHs (Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons), well within stringent international standards (like IBI and EBC guidelines). Our activated charcoal is made from natural, untreated biomass and does not contain harmful chemicals. It's safe for use around people and pets when used as directed. As with any fine particulate matter, avoid inhaling dust during handling.
Our activated charcoal has received certification from the USDA under the Biopreferred program.
Further, the biochar used as the base for our activated carbon is produced to meet standards comparable to those set by the International Biochar Initiative.
